The secret to efflorescence removal is using the right method, not the most pressure. In Van Ness, DC, we match the cleaner and pressure to the surface so it comes out clean without damage.
How we clean it
Is it time for efflorescence removal?
- White powder or crust on brick, block or pavers
- Haze that comes back after rain
- White lines along mortar joints
Why it gets dirty
- Water moving through masonry and carrying salts to the surface
- New pavers and concrete still curing
- Downspouts and sprinklers soaking the masonry
Safe steps for homeowners
- Brush dry efflorescence off with a stiff brush before wetting it
- Fix water sources such as gutters and sprinklers
- Wait out new installations: efflorescence on new pavers often fades on its own

Why more pressure isn’t better
- Washing with plain water, which can dissolve salts and redeposit them
- Strong acids that burn masonry
- Sealing over efflorescence, which traps it
How we handle efflorescence removal
- Find the moisture source
- Dry-brush loose salts
- Apply an efflorescence cleaner
- Rinse and neutralize
- Seal only once the surface is clean and dry

Do you use high pressure for efflorescence removal?
Efflorescence Removal is done with masonry cleaner and low-pressure rinse. Low pressure and the right solution remove growth and dirt without damaging the surface, and the growth takes longer to come back.
Is efflorescence removal safe for my plants and pets?
We pre-wet plants and lawns, keep cleaning solutions diluted to what the surface needs, and rinse landscaping again when we finish. Keep pets and children inside until surfaces are rinsed and dry.
How often should I schedule efflorescence removal?
As needed; it can return until the moisture source is fixed. Shade, nearby trees, humidity and heavy traffic mean more frequent cleaning; sunny, dry spots can go longer. Our free cleaning frequency tool gives a recommendation for your climate.
What if it rains on the day?
Light rain doesn't stop most washing, but heavy rain, high wind, lightning and freezing temperatures do. If the weather isn't right, we reschedule at no charge. Our work is backed by a satisfaction guarantee.
